GIS Specialist

South Central Indiana REMC (SCI REMC) is a not-for-profit electric distribution, fiber optic internet provider, member-owned cooperative. The cooperative is a leader in distribution technology and is headquartered in a new and progressive facility in Martinsville, Indiana. SCI REMC serves seven counties including Morgan, Monroe, Owen, Brown, Johnson, Putnam and Clay with nearly 4,000 miles of energized lines with nearly 30,000 members. SCI REMC also has a fiber division that offers broadband services to its members’ homes and business.
The general objectives for this position include:
- posting changes to the existing electric and fiber GIS system.
- maintenance of the electric and fiber connectivity model within the GIS system for use by the OMS, map viewer, and engineering software.
- collection, posting, and maintaining of asset and inventory data into the GIS system.
- administering pole attachments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS **
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent. Formal training in GIS systems strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrated competency with computer office software. Experience with ESRI mapping products preferred. Electric distribution experience is preferred as well as knowledge of SCI service area’s roads and terrain.
POSITION
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have the ability to operate a personal computer proficiently with the ability to learn new programs quickly.
- Must have the ability to create and maintain records, files, and reports which will be used by REMC personnel.
- Must be capable of communication actively with management, employees, members, personnel from other organizations, and the general public.
- Must possess critical thinking skills to identify and correct mapping errors.
- Must be able to work effectively on a daily basis with a variety of individuals.
- Ability to demonstrate strong initiative and self-manage time to be efficient and productive.
- Must be capable of collecting field data under varying terrain conditions.
- Must be willing and able to work during outages as needed.
- Must be regular in work attendance.
- Must have and maintain a valid IN driver’s license.
