WHO WE ARE
Jasper County Rural Electric Membership Corporation (REMC) is a not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative with a broadband division providing internet services. Headquartered in Rensselaer, Indiana, we serve approximately 9,000 electric consumers across 1,200 miles of line and are building a rural broadband network. The cooperative began providing electric services in 1938 and internet services in 2022 for the same basic reasons—to ensure that our rural areas can grow and thrive.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the Engineering and Metering departments. This position is responsible for recommending, planning and managing engineering projects, maintaining the cooperative’s electric distribution models and assisting the operations department by providing technical support. This position will lead and oversee all aspects of the cooperative’s engineering requirements to ensure a safe, reliable and efficient electric distribution system.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Your role will include leading and overseeing all aspects of the cooperative’s engineering activities. You will be performing engineering tasks, including but not limited to, performing operation and engineering analyses, troubleshooting, evaluating electrical loading and reliability, analyzing system stability, and determining system protection coordination. You will be responsible for the oversight of interconnect standards for the installation, operation, maintenance, and upgrades to all Distributed Energy Resources (DER) interconnections. You will establish and oversee all contractor projects and will be managing multiple projects of varying scales simultaneously. You will assist the Operations department with dispatching electric outages as needed during normal business hours as well as after hours in storm or emergency situations. You will work closely with cooperative personnel, members, contractors as well as many other external representatives.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in an engineering position at an electric utility is required. Management experience is desirable. An effective working knowledge of electrical distribution system operations is required. A strong understanding of Rural Utilities Service (RUS) specifications, National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), ANSI standards, OSHA regulations and other applicable codes and regulations is necessary. A strong understanding of Milsoft Windmil software and NISC software is a plus. A skill set that includes strong decision making and problem-solving abilities, mathematical abilities and project management skills are necessary. Excellent communication and listening skills are required. An ability to move in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines while providing accurate information is essential.
