Are you an experienced leader with a passion for community-focused service? Whitewater Valley REMC is seeking a dynamic and visionary President & Chief Executive Officer to guide our cooperative toward continued success. As the President & CEO, you will oversee daily operations, lead our strategic direction, and ensure we meet the evolving needs of our members and the communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the cooperative’s vision, mission, and long-term goals.
- Operational Excellence: Manage the electric system to ensure reliable service and efficient operations, minimizing outages and maintaining high quality.
- Management Development: Ensures the board is informed about staffing changes and needs, fosters staff development through goal setting and feedback, delegates tasks while overseeing performance, and participates in training to enhance personal and professional growth and contributes to the growth of others.
- Member & Community Engagement: Foster strong relationships with members, local leaders, and civic organizations to enhance the cooperative’s impact in the community.
- Competitiveness: Demonstrates knowledge of competitive issues and implements innovative strategies and solutions to ensure the system remains rate competitive, while using creativity and innovation to find new solutions.
- Financial Management: Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and cost management to ensure fiscal responsibility and long-term financial health.
- Employee Relations: Lead, motivate, and develop staff while promoting a positive and collaborative, safe workplace culture. Keeps employees informed and influences them to be adaptable. Ensures competent hires and promotions and empowers employees to make decisions that enhance company performance.
- Board Relations: Provide the Board of Directors with timely, strategic updates, and support in making informed decisions. Keeps the board informed on industry issues, legal responsibilities, relevant activities, and organizational developments, while providing recommendations, building trust, assisting with meetings, and encouraging effective teamwork.
Education/Experience and Skills Required
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, marketing/communications, engineering, accounting, or a related field.
Experience:
- 8-10 years of progressive leadership in administrative, management, and/or supervisory work, ideally within the electric utility or cooperative industry.
Skills:
- Proficient knowledge of electrical utility operations, financial reports, business administration, management, and human resources.
- Written/oral communication skills for dealing with Board of Directors, Cooperative members, management, employees, vendors, contractors, and the public.
- Supervisory skills involving interpersonal communication, leadership, training, and coaching.
- Ability to negotiate with and motivate others.
- Must demonstrate by example and encourage in all employees a good work ethic, a desire to provide exceptional service, and a cooperative spirit of teamwork.
- Must have personal qualities of integrity, credibility, service, and dedication to the seven cooperative principles and the mission of Whitewater Valley REMC.
- Able to discern situations that dictate confidentiality and maintain that confidentiality.
- Formal presentation skills and some public speaking.
- Ability to write company policies, reports, newsletter articles, and correspond with members and vendors.
- Analytical skills for development of operational reports and budgets.
- Ability to apply accounting principles and business economics.
- Ability to make logical decisions under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in computer use and Microsoft Office software.
- Valid operator driver’s license.

About Whitewater Valley REMC:
Whitewater Valley Rural Electric Membership Corporation is a not-for-profit utility distributing electricity to nearly 12,000 meters across its six-county service area in east-central Indiana. Located in Liberty, Ind., the cooperative employs 27 people.
An active member of the community, Whitewater Valley REMC and its employees support the area through a variety of scholarships, financial contributions, in-kind donations, volunteerism, and other programs.
The cooperative serves parts of Dearborn, Fayette, Franklin, Randolph, Union, and Wayne counties.
